Cumpleaños de monstruos ✿ Monster birthday

Hoy cumple tres años nuestro David y hemos ido a su cole, DBB, para celebrarlo con sus amigos :)

Our David turns 3 today and we went to his daycare to celebrate :)

La verdad es una suerte tener este centro de estimulación infantil tan cerca de casa, porque desde que empezó a ir "a su cole", como él lo llama, está super feliz y ha aprendido un montón de cosas.  Además, las profesoras son un amor y nos animan a participar en actividades, así que estábamos encantados de poder celebrarle el cumple allí.

We are really lucky having this great place near home, because since day one he's been super happy there and has learned a lot.  Teachers are kind and loving and encourage us to participate actively, so we were really happy to cellebrate his birthday there. 

Empezamos cantando el cuento de La Pulga y el Piojo -una canción infantil tradicional venezolana-, que acompañamos mostrando a los niños las imágenes de cada parte de la canción. No sé quién lo disfrutó más: si los niños, David viéndonos hacer payasadas, Abraham cantando o yo haciendo las vocecitas de los animales.

We started singing "La Pulga y el Piojo" -The Flea and the Louse, a venezuelan traditional song for children- showing the kids slides of the story. I don't know who enjoyed it the most: David seeing his parents being goofy, Abraham singing or yours truly making funny voices for each character ;)

Después vino la piñata. David me pidió que le hiciera un monstruo, así que con una caja vacía, papel crespón y unas cuerdas, hicimos a este personaje tan divertido.  Para ser mi primera piñata, estoy super orgullosa del resultado.

After that there was a piñata. David asked me to make a monster, so using an empty box, crepe paper and a rope we made this funny guy. I'm proud of the result, given the fact that it was my first attempt doing a piñata.

 A propósito de la piñata, a diferencia de lo que se hace en Venezuela, mi tierra natal, que se le dan "palos" a la piñata hasta romperla, aquí en Madrid se estila ponerle cintas de las que se tira y se abre una "compuerta" para que salgan las chucherías que hay dentro. Cero violencia. La verdad es que este estilo me gusta, porque yo recuerdo que de pequeña lloraba cuando rompían mi preciosa piñata :P

Talking about the piñata, in Venezuela -my home country- you hit it with a stick 'till it breaks, but here in Madrid you put some cords or ribbons tu pull and open a "floodgate" for the candy to come out. Zero violence. I actually like this way best, because I remember how I cried as a child when other kids break my precious piñatas :P

Tras la piñata llegó la hora de cantar el Cumpleaños Feliz con la tarta de monstruo.  A pesar de todas las cosas maravillosas que aprendí con Alma sobre decoración de cupcakes (eso ya lo contare en otro post), tratándose de niños tan pequeños preferí hacer algo más simple y menos azucarado -ya se sabe que el azúcar es como gasolina para bebés y no quería tener a todas las madres odiándome porque sus enanos estaban como una moto-.

After the piñata it was time to sing Happy Birthday To You with the monster cake. Eventhough I learned a lot about fondant and cake decorating techniques with Alma, I preferred to make something simpler, lighter and with less sugar -wich is like fuel for babies and I didn't want the other parents hating me because their kids were like a motocycle-.

Así fue como se me ocurrió hacer un sencillo bizcocho de naranja y decorarlo con unas nubes (marshmallows) haciendo las veces de ojos y un gajo de naranja a modo de sonrisa :)  

Mmm... ahora que lo pienso, eso sigue siendo un montón de azúcar, ¿no? ¡Jajaja!

That's how I thought about making a simple orange pound cake and decorating it with some marshmallows for the "eyes" and an orange slice as the mouth :)

Mmmm... now that I think of it, that's still A LOT of sugar for a kid, isn't it? Hahaha!

Y por último, aquí están las estrellas del cumpleaños: los monstruos-recuerdito que tejí en crochet.  Los niños estaban fascinados con ellos y hasta Laura, la profe de David se quedó uno.  Debo decir que ella lo lleva colgado del bolso y según me cuenta es un exitazo, así que si alguien quiere un monstruo que me lo pida, que los hago por encargo :)

And last but not the least, here are this birthday's true stars: the monster party-favors I crocheted.  Kids were in awe and even Laura, the teacher kept one for herself.  She wears it hanging on her bag and tells me its a total success... so if anyone wants a monster bag-decoration just ask me :)
